Luella W. Phipps, age 101, of Boone, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at her home in Boone.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 21, at the Trinity Lutheran Church located at 712 12th Street in Boone, with Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating.
Visitation will be held on Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church from 8:30 A.M. to the time of service.
Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
Luella was born on August 8, 1910 in Amaqua Township, Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Sophia (Naeve) Peters.
In 1928, Luella graduated from Ogden High School in Ogden, Iowa.
On June 8, 1930, Luella married William Fred Phipps in the Zion Lutheran Church Parsonage in Ogden, Iowa.
Luella was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm in Amaqua Township near Ogden until 1962. The couple then moved to Boone. Luella was a nurse's aide at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone now Westhaven Community from 1964 to 1967. She was also a homemaker for others including Dr. Gerald Sutton for over 20 years.
Luella was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone and also a member of the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly).
She enjoyed working jig-saw and cross word puzzles, also crouching and quilting with her church members.
Luella is preceded in death by her parents; her husband William on April 3, 1963 and her four brothers, Harry, Ruddie, Orville and Carl.
Luella is survived by her daughter, Wilma L. Phipps of Boone; her niece Twila Hentz of Wilmington, NC, and her nephew Harold Peters and his wife Jean of Burnsville, Minnesota.
A memorial has been established for the Trinity Lutheran Church in memory of Luella.
