Nelda "Mae" Fay, 94, a resident of the Westhaven Community of Boone since July 2010 and formerly of Boone, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Westhaven Community.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 7, 2012 in the Westhaven Chapel at Westhaven Community in Boone with Rev. Jeff McDowell officiating. There will be a time of visitation Saturday morning in the Westhaven Chapel from 9:30 A.M. until the service time at 10:00 A.M.

Burial will be at a later date in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Mae was born on June 13, 1917 in Curlew, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Christine (Stratton) Brechler.

She attended school in Curlew, south of Emmetsburg, Iowa.

She was married to Leslie Lafayette Fay for many years. The couple lived and farmed near Albert City, Iowa.

Mae did house cleaning in the mid to late 50's. Then in the late 1960's she worked at Superior Manufacturing in Albert City, Iowa, as an assembler for grease guns and then at Tomm & Wagg Company where she made road signs. Then in 1972, Mae moved to Boone to live with her daughter and family. She then decided to take a job in Indianola, Iowa to her an elderly couple with in home care giving.

From 1980 to 1986 she worked at Guthrie County Care Facility. Mae worked at the Boone County Care Facility for many years as a Certified Nurse Aide. Mae then helped her daughter and granddaughter, Susan Pottratz of Boone, start a pie business in Boone in the early 1990's.

In earlier years, Mae helped on the farm with her husband. and she raised Siamese cats and also had many other animals whom she loved in her life. She especially enjoyed her vegetable garden, raising flowers, including roses in her rose garden. And she loved to bake pies and other baked goods.

She was the best mother and grandmother, her family will have many cherished memories.

Mae is preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, her four brothers and her son Larry Fay, her daughter, Ardith Smith.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Tommy Gerald Fay and his wife, Dolores "Dee" of Bussey, Iowa, her 12 grandchildren, her numerous great grandchildren, and son in law, Bob Smith of Boone, Iowa, her sister in law, Mary Brechler of Hallsville, Missouri.

Memorials may be made to the Boone Area Humane Society in Boone, Iowa, In Memory of Mae.
